When I first saw the previews for Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise I thought, someone took Groundhog Day and crossed it with Aliens, the second film in Segourney Weaver film series. In many ways I was dead on, however, that doesn’t mean that it’s not a good combination.
Oblivion is full of eye candy: the landscapes, the space pool, and of course Cruise. However, eye candy does not a movie make, which is something Cruise has forgotten along the way somewhere.
The comparisons people have been making to Jerry Maguire seem fair. Up in the Air sees George Clooney filling the Tom Cruise role. Both characters have to take a journey to find what is actually important in life.
